8 children killed in van-bus collision near Pudukottai
Seven school children and the driver of a mini van were killed when the van collided with a private bus at Vanthakottai-Poovarasankudi on the Pudukottai-Aranthangi Road on Wednesday morning.
The school children, all from Vijayaraghunathapuram near Pudukottai, had reportedly hitched a ride on the mini van from Kaikurichi on their way to the school at Vallathirakottai. The students were from classes 9 to 12. The van capsized after being hit by the private bus and the eight victims were killed on the spot.
The cleaner of the van, and two other school students, sustained serious injuries and have been rushed to the Pudukottai Government Hospital. They were later referred to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.
