Dharmapuri girl allowed to go with her mother

The Madras High Court on Thursday permitted a caste Hindu girl, whose marriage to a Dalit boy led to mob fury in three Dalit colonies in Dharmapuri district, to go with her mother as per her wish.

N. Divya had married I. Ilavarasan of Natham Colony near Naikkankotai village. Her father committed suicide on November 7, 2012 when she refused to return home. That evening, a mob set fire to houses in the colony and two others nearby.

The girl was reported missing from Sunday. Illavarasan and his parents lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday evening that she was missing after she had gone to visit her ailing grandmother.

When the matter relating to a habeas corpus petition of her mother Thenmozhi was taken up for hearing on Thursday, Divya appeared along with her mother.

The Bench comprising justices M. Jaichandren and M.M. Sundresh heard the girl and submission by the counsel of husband. As she expressed her wish to go with her mother Thenmozhi, the judges allowed her to do so. They also directed the police to give her adequate protection.
