Secret Army letter lost
Secret Army letter lost
New Delhi: A top secret letter of the Army that went missing two years ago could have led to compromising of sensitive operational information on the deployment of troops near the border with China.
The letter was written by the Tezpur-based 4 Corps to the 21 Mountain Division at Rangia, Assam, and mentioned certain tasks to be performed. It went missing soon after it was received by the 21 Mountain Division.
The letter has still not been located. The officer who was commanding the division at that time was subsequently promoted to the rank of Lt. General to command the Bathinda-based 10 Corps.
The disappearance of the letter will lead to disciplinary or administrative action against a few Army personnel, including a senior officer.
After looking into the issue, an Army Court of Inquiry (CoI) indicted a few Army officers and submitted its report to the top brass towards the end of 2012.
Some other Army personnel including officers could face either disciplinary action that could include court martial or else administrative action that could include a censure, after they were indicted by the CoI. Sources said the process of proceeding with action against the officers indicted by the Court of Inquiry had commenced.
